The Sand Cave is one of the main points of interest in a protected area, you can only get there by boat to the small pier that goes into the sea from its small and charming beach, it is located in the Los Haitises National Park.
The cavern is approximately 940 m long and runs along the cliff of the Samaná bay coast. This magnificent cave was used by the Taino Indians and they decorated it with their pre-Columbian art, reaching today an incredible number of twenty-two pictographs. , six petroglyphs and two bas-reliefs.
Already at the entrance of the cave you can see the bas-reliefs in the form of a human head, in addition, the cave itself is of interest to the visitor, since during the tour you can find puddles or small lagoons of seawater that filter , through the ground or by entering through cave openings.
As an added value, although the main door is the one that leads to the beach, throughout the cave there are five openings that lead to the outside and from which you can access the sea from the cave, granting beautiful views from inside as if they were authentic natural balconies towards Los Haitises National Park.
You can see inside the cave images of faces carved in stone by ancient inhabitants, there are also stalactites. The paths where to travel are well marked and delimited.
