Puddles of the Military is an impressive place that has become a natural destination endowed with exuberant native and endemic vegetation of the Dominican Republic, located in the bowels of the Cordillera Septentrional, in the north of the island. Ideal for lovers of long walks of moderate risk.
This is one of those places where you literally feel in paradise thanks to the incredible vegetation and the turquoise blue color of its waters, according to what they say, this color is due to a mineral that lives in the rocks of the river. This place is located in the community of Tubagua.
Community members say that the name of Puddles of the Military is given by an urban legend of this town: they say that in the days of the Trujillo dictatorship a group of soldiers deserted, leaving their uniforms lying in the crystal clear waters of these puddles, it is believed that its name comes from there.
To be more exact, they are located in the community called Tubagua, in the province of Puerto Plata, one hour away from the city of Santiago de los Caballeros, through the charming Panoramic Route, a mountain road (Route 25). Once there, we leave the comfort of the asphalt to enter a walk of approximately one hour and fifteen minutes.
During the journey, the visitor is impressed by the spectacular views that accompany him throughout the journey, pure nature, fresh air, the song of birds, and the fascinating slopes characteristic of the geography of a mountainous system without equal, such as the Cordillera Septentrional, are some of the reasons why the traveler hastens to take the images that he will take as a souvenir, completely ignoring that the last views will be much better than
the first.
