Las Caobas Natural Monument

The Las Caobas Natural Monument is a beautiful, wonderful natural monument, it is also a special protected area, as it is made up of the southern foothills of the Sierra de Neiba and also has a transitional forest with floristic elements of characteristics, both of the dry forest and from more humid environments.

Those who visit the protected area can enjoy spectacular views over Lake Enriquillo and the Neiba plain. To get to the place you have to leave Barahona towards Jimaní and dominating the west bank of Lake Enriquillo, the paths begin that lead us to discover the natural corners and secluded towns of the Sierra de la Frontera and its foothills.

For the best protection of these reserved natural areas, a 500-meter strip around the limits of the “Parque Nalga de Maco” is consecrated as a buffer zone, where the productive activities of the surrounding communities will be regulated, a strip of 1000 meters around the limits of the “Parque Sierra de Neyba” and a strip of 500 meters around the limits of the “Monumento Natural Las Caobas”.

The Las Caobas Natural Monument is a great place to visit the Dominican Republic, which all locals should know to raise awareness regarding the protection of the environment, it is also our responsibility to preserve these beautiful forested paradises.
